"Losar": a definition of this annual celebration based-upon experience might define the word as "having to do with large consumption of cholesterol, butter, salt, oil." We have eaten so much and drank so much cholesterol this one week, we will probably start eating alot more oatmeal and garlic to combat this week's lifetime-worth amount. Fortunately, we have been correctly informed and realize, contrary to our eating during the celebration, the Tibetan word actually only literally translates "Year new."
So, we have brought in the "Yearnew" with maximum dosages of Tibetan meals and some incredible warm-hearted celebrations of family and friends. We spent every bit of everyday with our Tibetan friends, mostly in their homes, but sometimes at the stupa, gompas (monastaries/temples), and even one evening at the local and Nepal's only 5-star hotel, the Hyatt. Everday in our chubas (Tibetan clothing) we would go spend the time welcomed by all our new friends, because you must meet with them all. It shows alot about their values of hospitality and open homes. All of the relationships we have built so far have increased in closeness this week. We danced-it-up with some Tibetans on the grounds of a gompa. We stayed out way past our bedtime at the Hyatt at the biggest Losar celebration in Nepal. We visited the Mustangi peoples' spiritual leader's gompa (photo of the big idol). It was so much fun to be with the people non-stop and be able to be apart of their excitement. We know our relationships have grown greatly and look forward to what this will mean in the future.
