Around Kathmandu: The Tibetan Buddhist World

Kathmandu is a very diverse place. The main religion of Nepal is Hinduism but there are also a large number of Tibetan Buddhists and Muslims. The number of Christians among the Hindus of Nepal continues to grow as well. Our family spends most of our time with people who practice Tibetan Buddhism. Below are some pictures from around town (some that we took but most were taken by a friend on a recent trip here) in the Tibetan Buddhist areas:

Young monk. Young boys and girls are often given by their parents to the local monastery in order for the family to earn good karma for the afterlife. Many monks and nuns do not choose this life for themselves but rather they are given over into this lifestyle.
